Nottinghamshire house belonging to D H Lawrence sold at auction for £91,000

A Nottinghamshire property once lived in by the author D H Lawrence has been sold at auction for £91,000. The three bedroom property on Lynncroft, Eastwood, was lived in by the Sons and Lovers writer for a number of years.

It sold to its newest owner - referred to only as Mr S during auction proceedings - on Wednesday, April 19.

Lawrence lived in the house during 1903 until 1908 when he was 17 to 22 years old. It was one of four properties in the area that the author lived in, and was listed by Auction House London with a guide price of £65,000 before being sold for £91,000 after a competitive bidding war.

During the auction, the auctioneer described the property as "the one lots of people have been waiting for" and explained that the auction house had been "blissfully unaware" of its history until a local historian got in touch.

He said: "This house if of historical interest as it is the former home of renowned author D H Lawrence. He apparently lived there from the age of 17 to 22."

During his time in the Lynncroft property D H Lawrence started his writing journey, which led to his most famous novel 'Lady Chatterley's Lover.' The D H Lawrence Birthplace Museum is also in the neighbourhood, which is inside the house where the writer was born in 1885.

The house has a basement, two reception rooms, kitchen, shower room, three bedrooms and a bathroom. It is also close to local shops, amenities and open spaces, such as Coronation Park.
