Hour-by-hour Met Office forecast shows North East set for a wet week with risk of thunder on Tuesday

After a wet and miserable Bank Holiday Monday, anyone hoping for a sunnier Tuesday will be disappointed according to the Met Office's weather forecasters.

According to the Met Office, Tuesday is set to at least see a bright start, but showers will settle in by mid-morning and there could even be thunder and hail throughout the day. The rest of the week is likely to see more damp spells and showers until at least Friday.

Though there are flood alerts in place for some other areas of the UK, none have been issued for the North East as it stands. That said, the wet weekend has already seen landslides cause the Northumberland National Park to close the popular path to Hareshaw Linn waterfall.

The Met Office forecasters said for Tuesday to expect the following: "A bright day, generally dry to start but frequent and locally heavy showers developing into the afternoon, bringing the risk of hail and thunder. Drier and brighter by evening. Maximum temperature 18 °C."

And the outlook for Wednesday to Friday is: "Sunny spells and scattered showers likely during Wednesday and Thursday. Dry and bright on Friday after any patchy low cloud and early morning fog has cleared. Temperatures around average."
