Nottinghamshire's record temperature is set to be broken for the second day in succession as scorching temperatures of 40C are forecast by the Met Office. There is also still a chance of thunder in the forecast, with a 50% chance of a light show predicted at about 4pm.
There is also some slightly better news for getting off to sleep tonight as the mercury is expected to fall below 30C by 10pm and will continue to fall through the early hours of Wednesday, July 20. Last night it barely fell below 30, giving many people a tough night's sleep.
A red extreme heat weather warning remains in place today and the weather is expected to reach its height at about 3pm, when 40C is predicted by the Met Office. It will then fall throughout the rest of the day, falling to 27C by 11pm.

Monday's top temperature in Nottinghamshire of 36.7C at Sutton Bonington - a record for the county - is expected to be broken today. After today, there is some much-needed respite as temperatures are expected to remain in the mid 20s for the rest of the week.
