Merseyside is set to be hit by extreme heat this weekend with a red weather warning in place for parts of the region.
Temperatures will soar over the next few days as a heatwave sweeps across the country. The Met Office has issued its first-ever red warning for extreme heat which covers parts of Merseyside including St Helens.
A series of amber weather warnings are also in place closer to the coast in Liverpool and Wirral as the Met Office warns of a "danger to life." Forecasters predict the weather is likely to have "adverse health effects" for the public and not just those who are vulnerable to extreme conditions.

According to the latest forecast, the extreme weather should start on Sunday, July 17, however Saturday is also set to be a sunny day with highs of 23 degrees. The red weather warning is in place for parts of the region from Monday at 12am to Tuesday at 11.59pm.
The Met Office said: "Exceptional, perhaps record-breaking, temperatures are likely on Monday, then again on Tuesday. Nights are also likely to be exceptionally warm for the UK, especially in urban areas. This is likely to lead to widespread impacts on people and infrastructure."
On Monday, temperatures are set to reach highs of 35 degrees in the city.
