Hottest day of the year to land next week as 29C scorcher appears on weather models

When it comes to the weather, we often love to give out. We moan when it rains too much, and when the temperatures shoot up too much, we complain it has gotten too hot and next week it might reach that point for some people.

A heatwave has been blasting Ireland for the last while, bringing sun-soaked weekends where glorious spells of high temperatures reached 25C at some points.

Although a change in the weather has been predicted for this weekend, in the form of some potential heavy showers on Saturday - one independent weather forecaster has indicated that the mercury could hit a sweltering 29C next week.

A popular weather forecast page on Facebook, Weather Alerts Ireland, posted: "Warm weather is expected to continue for the rest of the week and into next week.

"Humidity will be an issue though towards the weekend. Temperatures overnight could well stay near the mid-teens which will make it feel fairly uncomfortable. With this humidity, there would be an increased risk of thunderstorms forming!

"Next week the ECMWF model is forecasting even hotter air to push over Ireland. As high as 29C is forecast! Still plenty of uncertainty on this."

Despite this indication of sweltering temperatures by Weather Alerts Ireland, Met Éireann has put forward a more conservative estimate weather-wise for this period in its long-term forecast, which covers June 9 until June 15.

The forecaster has predicted: “The coming week will bring a subtle change to the weather pattern over Ireland after a prolonged dry and settled period.

“Weather conditions will turn somewhat more changeable with an increased likelihood of rain or showers at times.

“However, many areas will still receive only moderate rainfall totals with little relief from the drought or near-drought conditions. It looks set to be warmer than average nationwide with an easterly or southeasterly airflow continuing to dominate.”
