Preston North End striker Cameron Archer says he learned a lot from facing Nottingham Forest's defenders after hoping his pace would catch them off guard in their Championship meeting.
The clash finished goalless at Deepdale last month as the Reds managed to keep the on-loan Aston Villa forward from finding the net following a series of excellent displays.
Archer's performances have indicated that he has a big future in the game with many Villa fans eager to see him in the first-team squad when he returns to the Premier League side in the summer.
His move to Deepdale has proven to be good experience for the 21-year-old specifically after thinking his speed would get the better of the Reds' centre-backs.
"Playing in the Championship games teaches you all sorts of things," he said.
"There was the game against Nottingham Forest recently when I played against some experienced players.
“Before the game I had studied their defence and saw that they didn’t have too much pace and they’d looked at me and knew I had pace.
"So they used their experience to give me nudges at the right time, make sure I didn’t get on the ball too easily. That night against Forest I learned a lot."
