BANKS, hotels, shops, pubs and ATMs face a cash shortage after more than 1000 workers voted to go on strike over pay.
Members of the GMB trade union who work for security company G4S voted 91% in favour of strike action, on a 59% turnout.
The staff deliver money to companies such as NatWest, Lloyds Santander, Tesco, Asda, Wetherspoons, McDonalds and Travelodge.
GMB said staff had been offered a pay deal as low as 1.4% in some cases, while their direct competitor Loomis offered workers 4.6% earlier this year.
Strikes could take place as early as the Easter bank holiday and will affect the entire UK, including Scotland.
The industrial action could potentially leave businesses and ATMs without cash, while airports could run out of foreign currency.
The following companies could face a cash shortage over the strike action:
- NatWest
- Lloyds
- Santander
- Bank of Ireland
- Virgin Money
- Travelex
- Tesco
- ASDA
- M&S
- CoOp
- Aldi
- Wetherspoons
- Greene King
- 5 Guys
- Starbucks
- Cafe Nero
- McDonalds
- Demipower (KFCs)
- Burger King
- Costa
- WH Smith
- Primark
- Next
- Fat Face
- Abercrombie and Fitch
- Currys
- NCP
- National Express
- Haven Holiday Parks
- Compass
- Hilton's
- Caterlink
- Village Hotels
- Travelodge
Eamon O’Hearn, GMB national officer, said: “These workers do a difficult and dangerous job – yet the company is only offering them a real terms pay cut. It’s no wonder they are willing to strike.
“Now thanks to G4S's penny pinching, the public faces an Easter break where businesses and banks run out of cash, potentially causing major disruption.”
G4S has been contacted for comment.
