When you stay overnight in a hotel, you expect everything to be perfectly clean when you arrive, as staff should have given you fresh towels and changed the bedsheets when the last visitor checked out.
But one woman who works in a hotel has claimed that the rooms might not be as sparkling as they seem - as although obvious things like bedsheets and toilets are cleaned regularly, others are not.
The woman, named Evangeline, explained in a viral video that she would never use a TV remote in a hotel without first wiping it down with an anti-bacterial wipe, as she likes to make sure the item is clean before she starts flicking through the channels.
However, even the remote isn't the dirtiest part of the room.
Evangeline revealed that the one thing she would never touch is the bedspread that can often be found laying across the end of the bed, as she insisted she always throws it on the floor as soon as she gets into her room.
The woman claimed that while some hotels do clean the bedspreads regularly, others will leave them without a wash for up to a year - making them by far the dirtiest part of the room.
In a video on her TikTok account, @queenevangeline, in which she ran through the five things she would never do in a hotel after working in one herself, she said: "I would never sit on the bedspread. I would never make myself comfortable on the bedspread. That thing comes off the first minute I walk into the hotel. Those things are not washed often.
"Nowadays the upper-scale hotels are better about it, if you notice the white bedspreads, those are actually flat sheets that are okay. But if it's not that and it's an actual bedspread, those things get cleaned like, maybe once a year. Don't sit on those."
In addition to not using the TV remote before it's been wiped over, Evangeline also said she would never use the glasses provided for drinking out of without first washing them herself.
And the hotel worker recommended putting the name of everyone who is staying in the room on the reservation, as if the named person has gone out and the other person needs their own key, they won't be given access to the room if they're not listed on the reservation.
Commenters on the post were left stunned by the woman's revelations, as many of them said they will now be taking the bedspread off as soon as they get into their hotel rooms during future trips.
One person said: "Bedspreads get cleaned once a year?! I don't care what it is if it isn't every time. AHH!"
While another added: "As a former housekeeper, clean everything before use. They don't give the housekeepers enough time to truly clean a room."
And a third wrote: "Same thing with the little accent pillows. Don't lay on them!"
