‘Hot’ wanted man sends Facebook into frenzy – with some even offering to hide him at their house

A police appeal to find a Newport man didn't go as planned after his mugshot attracted thousands of comments from smitten women.

Gwent Police posted a photo of Michael Tuft, 36, who they want to speak to about an altercation near the city centre.

But less than 24-hours after sharing the appeal on their facebook page, the post was flooded by comments from an army of female admirers who said they were all looking for him too.

Tuft is wanted by police in connection with an altercation which happened at Prince Street, Newport on Sunday February 19.

The police appeal read: "We’re appealing for information to find Michael Tuft, 36, from Newport.

"Officers would like to speak to him in connection with an altercation which happened at Prince Street, Newport on Sunday 19 February at around 1pm.

"Anyone with any information on his whereabouts can call us on 101 quoting 2200057716, or you can DM us on Facebook or Twitter.

"You can also call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."

But it seems as though police will have a tough time locating him, with thousands of women joking that they wouldn't hand him in.

One user said: "Tell Michael he can come hide in my house", while another added "Anyone finds him, let me know," and another urged police "If you find him, give him my address."

Just 23-hours after police posted the mugshot, the appeal has garnered 1.4k comments, 306 shares and 434 'reacts'. Of the reacts, 206 were laughing faces and 36 were heart emojis.

And it seems as though the post has attracted a few new recruits for the force, with hundreds offering to assist.

One comment said, "fancy taking the law into our own hands and assisting the police," while another said, "I'm thinking of turning my home into a rehabilitation centre for these male criminals think I can work wonders on helping them back on the straight and narrow I know".

Another said: "I think we should arrange a search party for him."

And it seems as though Tufft's friends and family were amused at the joke, with a user who appeared to be his cousin commenting: "Only Michael Tufft can get a free tinder promotion off Gwent Police. Instead of looking for him everyone's swipping right for him. Go on Cuzzy."

Other's couldn't believe the comment section, with one person replying "All these woman have had enough of tinder now turned to gwent police page madness."

The police appeal remains active on the force's social media and website.
