Jamie McGonigle is the latest Derry City to commit to a long-term deal with the club - and Ruaidhri Higgins believes he could even see out his career with the Candystripes.
McGonigle, 26, has got off to a flying start in front of goal this season, netting four times in Derry's opening five games - including a spectacular winner in the victory over reigning champs Shamrock Rovers.
Having signed last summer from Crusaders, the Dungiven man has now put pen to paper on a deal that will keep him at the Brandywell until at least the end of the 2025 season.
“I’ve started the season well and I’m really enjoying my football," said McGonigle.
"Once the club approached me about signing a new contract I didn’t need much convincing.”
“Ruaidhri is building something special here and has brought in some top quality players. It’s the biggest club around, so why wouldn’t I?".
Higgins is delighted that another one of his star players will be hanging around for a number of years.
“He’s a quality player and as much as the supporters have bought into him, the rest of the players and staff here have bought into him as well," said the City supremo.
“There is absolutely no reason why Jamie can’t play out his career at Derry City.”
