A heartwarming rescue mission unfolded in upstate New York as a team of Saratoga Springs police officers and neighbors banded together to save a horse named Sly from a perilous situation. The dramatic incident occurred when Sly, a 1,300-pound quarter horse, fell through the ice of a pond on Monday afternoon.
The horse's owner, Ali Ernst, discovered the distressing scene upon returning home from work. She immediately sprang into action, calling for help and rushing to the pond where Sly was struggling to stay afloat in the frigid water.
Officer Kyle Clinton was the first to arrive at the scene and assisted Ernst in keeping Sly's head above water. As more help arrived, a collaborative effort ensued to rescue the horse. With shouts of encouragement and coordinated efforts, the team managed to secure multiple ropes around Sly to pull him to safety.

After a strenuous effort, Sly was successfully extracted from the icy waters and able to stand on his feet. He was promptly taken to Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital, where Ernst is employed as a technician, for treatment of hypothermia.
Fortunately, Sly showed signs of recovery in the following days and was deemed well enough to return home. Ernst took precautionary measures by installing an electric fence around the pond to prevent any future mishaps, ensuring the safety of her beloved horses.
