Horse racing tips today: Best Saturday bets for Kempton Park

With more meetings called off on Saturday due to the weather, our horse racing tipster gives his best bets from Kempton Park.

Grandlad (1:30pm, Kempton)

Three-year-old colt Grandlad was second on debut 15 days ago at Newcastle. He was facing a hot favourite that day in the form of Run Boy Run, who had plenty of previous experience, already having three seconds to his name.

Despite a poor start, Grandlad really made the favourite work and at one point inside the final furlong even had his head in front.

If even improving just the tiniest bit, he should be good enough based on that form to win second time around. Previous winner Sky Warrior under penalty could be the biggest threat to the selection.

Ferrous (4.55pm, Kempton)

Four-year-old gelding Ferrous has raced in practically every weather condition, ranging from good-to-firm to heavy. It is hard to tell what his favourite condition is on turf. But what is clear is he definitely thrives on the all-weather. Second by a nose on his only all-weather run as a three year old and won last time out at Wolverhampton March 9.

Prominently ridden throughout he was pushed along to take the lead inside the final furlong. Knebworth was second in that race and has won since. That means the two will face each other again under quite similar weights and Ferrous can confirm his form with that rival to win again.

Circuit Breaker (3:15pm, Kempton)

Bottom weight Circuit Breaker finished his 2023 campaign in fine form, showing staying ability over the longer distances. Winning here on September 9 over 2m before coming second 20 days later at Haydock over 1m6f.

The four-year-old gelding is returned to 2m for his reappearance, likely to go forward again to be prominent up with the leaders or just in behind.

The increase in class might well not be an issue for him as he remains unexposed as a stayer and holds every chance of making it two wins from two at this venue.
