LOVE DE VEGA (2.54, nap) has the scope to take the Virgin Bet Handicap over seven furlongs at Ayr this afternoon.
The three-year-old filly showed marked improvement on her seasonal reappearance at Newmarket in July, having been off the course since the previous June.
It was her first try in handicap company over today’s seven furlong trip and she won with plenty in hand having made all, scoring by two and half lengths from Ingra Tor.
A disappointing run a week later possibly came too soon when moved up in grade, but she returned to form 25 days go at Ascot, when a three-quarter-length third behind Ideal Guest.
Charlie and Mark Johnston’s filly is less exposed than most in this field and she looks on the right side of the handicapper.
At Sedgefield MASTER MALACHY (3.20, nb) is expected to continue where he left off at the course for Donald McCain in the Cazoo Search Drive Smile Handicap Chase over two miles and a furlong.
After winning twice over hurdles during the summer the six-year-old was sent over the bigger obstacles and after scoring at Bangor in August, he turned a three-runner chase at the Norfolk track 26 days ago into a rout, beating Presenting Dylan – who he faces again today – by 27 lengths.
