Previously trained by Paul Nicholls, the nine-year-old recorded four wins in 2020, including twice at Cheltenham, before he lost his way last season. After being pulled up at Doncaster in February, he returned three months later in much better form, winning a three-runner contest at Fontwell over 3m 2f.
He just failed to peg back Topofthecotswolds by a half-length at Worcester over two miles and seven furlongs in June and should relish the test of stamina here.
ACKLAM EXPRESS should appreciate the a drop in class to take a long-awaited win the Eddie And Violet Smith Conditions Stakes (3.27) at Beverley. The four-year-old’s last victory came in August 2020 in a Listed race at York and he went on to be placed at the highest level at Meydan.
It took until this season’s King’s Stand Stakes to rediscover his form when third behind Nature Strip, but he finished down the field in the Nunthorpe Stakes last month. The task on Tuesday afternoon is much easier.
