KING OF STARS can win the William Hill Beverley Bullet Sprint Stakes (2.40pm) at Beverley on Saturday afternoon.
While at Goodwood MUTASAABEQ can win the Group Two feature, the William Hill Celebration Mile Stakes (3.35pm).
Michael Appleby’s King Of Stars has been threathening to land a top sprint this summer and he may do so in the Listed feature at Beverley.
The gelded son of Starspanglenbanner may be 5lb higher than his last winning mark, when landing back-to-back wins at Pontefract and Yarmouth last September – but he posted arguably his best effort last time out.
Appleby’s five-year-old was only narrowly beaten by Bergerac, just a short-head separating them, in the Sky Bet And Symphony Group Handicap at York’s Ebor meeting 10 days ago. This is a similar contest despite being a Listed event and could play to his his strengths, being a speedy sort who tends to race prominently.
That York effort was another consistent run with King Of Stars, having been second at both Sandown and Ascot and also fourth at Haydock Park back in a Listed contest back in May behind some talented sprinters like Raasel, Dragon Symbol and Tabdeed.
This is probably King Of Stars' toughest assignment since that run on Merseyside, but he has been progressing well and deserves to get his head in front after that fine effort last time on the Knavesmire.
There are plenty of dangers and those who will go close are last year’s winner Tis Marvellous – again ridden by Warrington jockey and Liverpool FC fan Paul Hanagan – from the Clive Cox stable; Julie Camacho’s well-drawn Ainsdale and the Karl Burke-trained Korker.
At Goodwood Charlie Hills’ Mutasaabeq may be hard to beat in the Celebration Mile.
The four-year-old won a Conditions contest on his return to action in April at Thirsk. He has not won since but has run well to be a narrow second in the Group Two bet365 Mile at Sandown; third, again not beaten far, in the Group Three Diomed Stakes at Epsom; and a head runner-up to Chindit in the Group Two Summer Mile Stakes at Ascot last month.
He looks a worthy favourite to finally get his head back in front at Goodwood.
Back at Beverley a lot of time it pays to have experience of the track and course and distance winner VAN GERWEN can go in again in the Constant Security Handicap (Division One) (3.10pm).
Paul Midgley’s veteran nine-year-old invariably goes well at the Yorkshire track and having been a close fourth here last time and from a decent draw in stall three can make a bold bid to go a few places better.
In Division Two of the Constant Security Handicap (3.45pm) another course and distance winner, David O’Meara’s MAY BLOSSOM, can also score.
The three-year-old won off a 3lb higher mark here last year and can do much better than his fifth at Carlisle last time back on a track he clearly thrives at.
Willie Haggas’ POST IMPRESSIONIST can win the William Hill Silver Cup Handicap (2.05pm).
The three-year-old gelded son of Teofilo was down the field at Royal Ascot and fourth of five on his most recent start at Chester. But back on a more conventional track and in possibly a lesser event he can get back to winning ways, having scored at Ayr back in April.
Mark Walford’s IT JUST TAKES TIME may land the opener, the Joe Rowntree Memorial Handicap (1.30pm).
The four-year-old has won two of his last three starts, just missing out on a hat-trick when second at Doncaster last time.
He can bounce back to land another success at Beverley.
Others who can win at Beverley are Richard Fahey’s MAWADA in the Churchill Tyres Irish EBF Fillies’ Novice Stakes (GBB Race) (4.20pm); the George Boughey-trained SILENT MONARCH in the Philip Brady Memorial Maiden Stakes (GBB Race) (4.54pm); and FORESHADOW, from the John Quinn stable, in the Stars Of The Future Apprentice Handicap (5.29pm).
Back at Goodwood, Boughey’s HOO YA MAL should land a first success of the season in the Group Three William Hill March Stakes (In Memory Of John Dunlop) (3pm).
Some potentially decent fillies line-up in the opener, the Group Three William Hill Prestige Fillies’ Stakes (1.50pm), and it may go to Karl Burke’s BRIGHT DIAMOND.
The two-year-old daughter of El Kabeir made a winning debut in a Maiden at Newmarket earlier this month and can follow up stepped into Group company for the first time.
Charlie & Mark Johnston’s I’M A GAMBLER won over course and distance at the Glorious Goodwood meeting last month and the three-year-old gelding can score again in the William Hill Handicap (2.25pm).
Others who can win at Goodwood are the Ralph Beckett-trained KEEP BIDDING in the William Hill/EBF Fillies’ Restricted Novice Stakes (For horses In Bands B, C And D) (GBB Race) (4.10pm); Andrew Balding’s CITY STREAK in the William Hill Extra Palces Every Day Handicap (4.45pm); and RAVENS ARK, from the Hughie Morrison stable, in the finale, the William Hill Best Odds Guaranteed Handicap (5.20pm).
At Newmarket course and distance winner MANACCAN, who scored in a handicap at the Shergar Cup meeting at Ascot earlier this month, can follow up in Listed company in the Jenningsbet Hopeful Stakes (3.15pm).
Other possible winners at Headquarters are Ed Dunlop’s LIBERATION BAY in the £100,000 Tattersalls Somerville Auction Stakes (GBB Race) (2.45pm); and the Kevin De Foy-trained LIVERPOOL KNIGHT in the Bet With Jenningsbet Handicap (3.50pm).
