A Devon hotel has undergone a full deep clean after a suspected norovirus outbreak left dozens of guests confined to their rooms.
The Abbey Lawn Hotel in Torquay confirmed that 28 people reported symptoms of the illness, with some forced to self-isolate following their arrival on 30 March. Footage taken by a guest showed bags containing tea, coffee, milk and water being left hanging on doors for those affected.
Hotel owners Daish’s Holidays said that swift action had been taken to contain the outbreak, which did not require medical intervention or lead to hospitalisations.
A spokesperson for Daish’s Holidays said: “We would like to reassure guests and the wider community that swift and comprehensive action has been taken following recent reports of sickness at the Abbey Lawn Hotel.
"None of the guests affected required medical support or hospitalisation, the situation was contained, and the hotel has not been closed. There have been no further reports of sickness in the last 24 hours.
“A full deep clean of the hotel has been carried out as part of our rigorous hygiene protocols, and we continue to follow strict health and safety measures, approved by Public Health England.
"We remain committed to maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and care and look forward to continuing to provide a safe and enjoyable experience for all guests.”
The hotel said most of those affected had travelled on the same coach, while the remaining 84 guests were unaffected.
Management confirmed that UK Health Security Agency officials were contacted on 1 April and all necessary health procedures were followed.
