Horror crash on M80 closes motorway amid reports of 'trauma teams' at scene

Emergency services have raced to a horror crash on the M80 this afternoon.

Officers from Police Scotland were called to a report of a one-vehicle smash near junction seven, Haggs, at around 1.35pm on Saturday, February 5.

An alert on the Traffic Scotland twitter page said all lanes were restricted in both directions following the accident.

An update at 2pm warned drivers to approach with care, with traffic being reported as "very heavy" in the area.

A further update at 2.30pm confirmed the road had now been closed northbound at junction seven.

Meanwhile the southbound carriageway has also been closed at junction six, Old Inns, to junction 6a at Castlecary.

One eyewitness commented: "Bad accident. Very long queues in both directions."

Another passerby told the Record that "trauma teams" were at the scene.

Pictures taken from the scene show police, fire and ambulances crews in attendance.

A white car can be seen smashed in the middle of the motorway.

It is unclear at this stage the severity of any injuries as a result of the crash.

Drivers are advised to avoid the area.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 1.35pm on Saturday, 5 February, officers were called to the M80 near junction 7, following a report of a one-vehicle crash.

"Emergency services remain at the scene."
