A driver has been rushed to hospital after a lorry overturned closing off one of Scotland's major roads.
Emergency services are currently at the scene on A75 the just west of Dumfries near to Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary, in an area known locally as the Glen.
The incident happened around 8am on Thursday morning. A second lorry was damaged by the debris from the incident, police have said.
A witness who heard the impact of the crash despite being a mile away described it as "horrific". They told the Record: " I heard the impact at 07:57 whilst in garden putting the washing out. It sounded horrific and the sound of it just made me feel sick. I really hope everyone us ok."
The A75 is closed in both directions between Dumfries and Castle Douglas. Police expect the road will be closed for a lengthy amount of time.
NHS Dumfries & Galloway have urged patients to plan ahead if they are attending Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary. Access is available but traffic around the area is very busy.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We received a report of an overturned lorry on the A75 west of Dumfries, around 8am on Thursday, 11 August, 2022.
“The driver has been taken to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary.
“A second lorry was damaged by debris from the incident.
“The road is currently closed and is expected to be for a number of hours. Diversions are in place.”
Traffic Scotland have advised road users to expect delays and to use an alternative route.
