An engineer who tragically died at Morrisons Warehouse in Wakefield was killed when the roof he had been called in to inspect collapsed, it has emerged.
West Yorkshire Police (WYP) were called to the warehouse at 41 Business Park, Kenmore Road, by paramedics at 10.20am on Monday. It followed reports a man had been seriously injured while working at the site as a contractor. He was sadly pronounced dead a short time later.
Now, Morrisons has confirmed the man was part of a team of engineers who had been called in to inspect a roof at the site. A spokesperson said: "There was a tragic accident today at our Wakefield site.

"A team of engineers was called to investigate a roof which subsequently collapsed causing the death of one of the engineers. This is a terrible and shocking tragedy and our thoughts are with his family. Police and other investigating authorities are on site now."
Mark Lynam, Wakefield Council’s corporate director for economic growth and regeneration, said: "We are aware that the incident has resulted in a fatality and our sincere sympathies go out to the person’s loved ones. Council officers are currently on site, supporting the emergency response. We are unable to comment any further at the moment."
A spokesperson for WYP said: "At 10.20am today police were contacted by the ambulance service who were attending an incident at the Morrisons Warehouse in Wakefield 41 Business Park, on Kenmore Road. A man had been seriously injured while working at the site as a contractor.
"He was pronounced deceased at the scene a short time later. A scene has been put in place while enquiries are carried out into the circumstances. The Coroner’s Office has been informed. The incident is being treated as an industrial accident and officers are liaising with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE)."
The HSE has confirmed it is aware of the incident and says it is "available to support if called upon to do so."
