The man has served a number of years behind bars for killing an individual and has numerous criminal convictions to his name.

The motorbike is understood to have come into contact with the woman and then subsequently hit an An Post van at around 1:20pm.

The woman has been rushed to Dublin's Mater Hospital, where her condition is understood to be critical at this time.

The motorcyclist, who is a member of a notorious criminal faction, has also been taken to hospital - but his injuries are not understood to be life threatening.

Several road closures are currently in place around Amien Street as gardai examine the scene.

A Garda spokesperson said: “Gardai are currently at the scene of a serious road traffic collision at Amiens Street, Dublin 1.

“A number of local roads are currently closed and local diversions are in place, with delays expected for road users in the area.

“No further information is available at this time.”
