Horror as British woman, 71, dies after being pulled unconscious from water in Greece

A British woman who was pulled unconscious from the sea in Greece has died aged 71, police have said.

The unnamed woman was confirmed to have died after being rushed to hospital shortly after being taken out of the water in Gouvia, Corfu.

An investigation is being carried out by the Central Port Authority of Corfu, while an autopsy has also been ordered, local media iefimerida reported.

The news comes two months after a missing American tourist was found dead on a beach on a small Greek island west of Corfu.

Thousands of trips are made every year from Britain to Greece and the vast majority are safe although the FCDO has warned of potential disruption due to political protests.

But for some there is still disruption here and there, such as when holidaymakers were left stranded when their flight home was cancelled amid the global IT outage.
