A video on TikTok showing a rat in a toilet in New York has shocked viewers.
The clip, which has been viewed over 3.5 million times, shows a rodent sitting in a toilet bowl as a woman says: “Sir”.
In the background, a man can be heard saying: “What a distinguished gentleman”.
The woman then starts to laugh as the video ends.
One of the top comments asked what we’re all thinking: “What do you do in this situation though?” Some suggested flushing, whereas others said “get a towel and grab him”.
Commenting on the rat’s sheepish stance, one viewer wrote: “He looks shocked he made it.”
“He’s huffing and puffing like ‘y’all are not gonna believe the night I just had’,” another user wrote.
Another TikToker chimed in: “Live-action Flushed Away?”

Horrifyingly, rats making their way up through our toilets isn’t just an urban legend — it’s actually quite easy for them.
In September, ACE Pest Control boss Andrew Dellbridge told Norwich Evening News that rats are getting “bigger and braver” since lockdown.
During lockdown, the British Pest Control Association (BPCA) reported a 51 per cent increase in ‘rat activity’.
Different areas have had novel solutions when it comes to banishing the long-tailed home intruders.
An Irish city considered spiking the sewer system with rat poison after an elderly man was bitten in the bum by a rat who came up through his toilet, while in Chicago, a thousand feral cats were unleashed onto the street in a bid to conquer their rat problem.
