Horrifying moment bungee jumper plummets 130ft into water after cord suddenly detaches

This is the moment a tourist jumps from a bungee platform over a dam and the cord suddenly detaches, sending the jumper plummeting to the water below.

The incident was filmed at the Cabra Corral Dam, in the northern Argentine province of Salta.

According to reports, the jumper, a 36-year-old tourist from Buenos Aires who paid for the bungee jump, fell from a height of around 40 metres (131 feet).

In the footage, the man, identified only as M.M., is seen preparing to jump from the platform, positioned above the Cabra Corral Dam.

Seconds later, the man jumps head first towards the water as a filming companion whoops in delight.

However, as the cord tightens, it detaches from the platform and the man plummets into the water with a thunderous splash.

The tourist appears to be uninjured in the water as a rescue vessel that was stationed at the scene immediately approaches him.

According to local media, the man was taken to a local hospital where he was treated for polytrauma, hypothermia and muscle pain.

The Buenos Aires resident was also invited to file a complaint against the excursion company at the Coronel Moldes police station.

Police officers went to the dam after the emergency report and reconstructed the events based on statements from the victim and an employee of Extreme Games Salta, the company offering the bungee service.

Initial tests indicated that the cord was not properly attached due to human error, however, the incident remains under investigation.

Back in 2019 The Mirror reported on a bungee jumper who suffered horrific spinal injuries after his rope broke on a near 100m plunge.

The 39-year-old was filmed performing the terrifying jump at Rady Europy theme park in Gdynia, Poland, off a 92-metre-high crane.

Terrifying footage of the jump shows the moment the man's body flies freely from the rope moments after jumping from the crane.

Believed to be a 39-year-old local, the man can be seen hurtling towards the ground.

Thankfully, he landed on a large inflatable cushion - which broke his initial fall before he bounced off onto the ground.

Commissioner Krzysztof Kuśmierczyk from the Municipal Headquarters in Gdynia said the jumper did not suffer 'visible injuries' and was taken to hospital by an ambulance immediately.

The incident reportedly left the man with multi-organ failures and a broken cervical spine.
