Horrified police discover 'mummified body' left in bathtub during burglary investigation

Police were left horrified after discovering a 'mummified body' sitting in a bathtub during a burglary investigation.

Bullhead City police were responding to a 911 call in Arizona after a property was burgled on Saturday at around 3.30am.

Officers were deployed to the home and soon made a grim discovery after finding 65-year-old Christine Lee Walters trying to steal various items.

She was allegedly trying to take bags, clothing and purses and attempt to sell them online.

However, as police searched the property they soon found a body in the bathroom of the house which is believed to have been the homeowner.

Cops said in a statement: "The deceased body was in a mummified state and is believed to be the homeowner."

It is not known how long the body was left lying in the bathtub for as the Mohave County Medical Examiner identified the victim as Wendy Mica.

Police had asked neighbours whether they had seen the 60-year-old but many residents hadn't seen her in a while and assumed she had moved.

Ms Mica hadn't been spotted for over a year, according to locals.

However, Ms Walters had been spotted in the house just two days prior before she was caught by police.

She had made her way into the home with some force as cops said they found "pry marks on the door indicating forced entry into the home".

Authorities gained a search warrant and searched Ms Walters house which revealed to have items from the home which she was looking to sell.

Police said: ""Detectives located more items belonging to the victim, including her birth certificate, IRS paperwork, driver’s license, and credit cards.

"Police also found drug paraphernalia items and a useable amount of methamphetamine."

Ms Walters was charged with two counts of burglary with police seeking to press ahead with additional charges after methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia were found on her.

The grim discovery just comes days after the dismembered body of a landlord was found in a freezer in Chicago.

Officers were called after Frances Walker was reported missing after she disappeared from her home around 7pm.

The caller, who rented the room, told cops she had not seen her landlord for over a day.

As officers arrived at the home they were told there was another tenant living at the house who they were afraid of.

Chicago Police found human remains in a freezer and a homicide investigation is underway.

CPD Chief of Detectives Brendan Deenihan said: "When police arrived, that individual told police there was another suspect who lived in the residence, that the other tenants were afraid of.

"And that suspect had recently called a tow truck and carried a heavy bag out to the tow truck.

"This tenant as well, who we really want to thank because they did a remarkable job, exchanged numbers with the tow-truck driver.

"And we learned that this individual dumped a large plastic bag in the garbage can at Foster Beach, and detectives were able to go to that garbage can and see that there were some bloody towels in that garbage can."
