Horrified family complain about 'suggestive' image on baby's clothes from Asda

A man has been left feeling uncomfortable after finding an "inappropriate" image on an item of baby clothing. Christopher Stone, from Grimsby, bought his sister-in-law a gift for her newborn daughter, which was a set of Snoopy pyjamas from Asda.

But, after the little one had been wearing the new outfit for a while, the family noticed something that they have described as "suggestive". At first, they laughed about the "inappropriate" image, but have since complained to Asda because they feel that it should not have been allowed on an item of clothing intended for a child.

On the inside of the left leg, there is an image of Snoopy sitting down with his head in the air, laughing. The character has his feet placed either side of his body, leading Christopher and his family to suggest that it looks very wrong.

Christopher said that he and his family laughed about it at first, but they have since taken the issue rather seriously and complained to Asda. Christopher said: "We bought the newborn baby outfit for my niece and didn't realise the implication of the image at first.

"We first realised once my sister in law sent us a picture of our niece wearing it. She accompanied the image with a comment, stating that it was an inappropriate place and picture."

Christopher said that it "made [the family] think" which is when they decided that, actually, they were very offended by the image. He explained: " At first, we laughed about it all, but at the same time it made us think. This is a piece of child’s clothing with not only an suggestive picture, but the possibility of it being placed inappropriately as well.

"In my eyes, it couldn’t have been any more inappropriate. We’d shown a few members of the family and they all had the same thoughts."

Christopher's sister-in-law complained to Asda about the garment and the supermarket chain apologised, GrimsbyLive reports. A spokesperson for the chain told her: "Apologies for the issue with your product and thank you so much for your continued patience, whilst we have investigated this.

"Thank you so much for being so humble and sharing this feedback with us. Rest assured, you are our very valuable customer and we never wanted you to face such hassle at all in the first place.

"The product we sell goes through a number of quality checks, these include visual inspections, colour transfer and many more. I can appreciate, despite this, we got it wrong on this occasion.

"I have noted your experience as a feedback in our system. We would try to improve ourselves based on your feedback and also implement any changes needed to ensure this level of service isn't repeated in the future."

GrimsbyLive approached Asda for comment and a spokesperson explained that the placement of images on the garment changes depending on the size. They said: "The sizing of this set ranges from birth to 3 years old, and the pattern placement will vary from garment to garment because of the production process.

"The classic Snoopy design is used on many products and we have received no other complaints, however we have apologised if any offence was caused to this customer."
