Shocked neighbours have told of their horror after a masked machete gang attacked a man on their quiet village street.
The 20-year-old victim was jumped as he left the Ye Olde Inn pub on Main Street, Davidson's Mains, at around 12.05am on Friday, April 21, 2023.
Police are treating the sickening attack as attempted murder and have launched a major manhunt for a three-strong balaclava-clad gang. Detectives locked down the road on Friday morning as the investigation began.

One neighbour said: “I’ve lived here around 20 years and there’s never been much trouble at all. I heard a lot of shouting just before midnight then the police knocked my door this morning.“
Another reacted with horror as details of the cowardly attack emerged. She said: “It’s such a shame that there were three of them out there waiting for him.
"We’ve lived here 45 years and there is trouble from time to time but never anything like that. I really hope he’s okay and they find out what happened.”
One neighbour told of her shock at seeing police swoop on the area. She adeed: “I was absolutely gobsmacked when I saw the police had cornered off the road this morning.”
Another added: “It’s such a shame you wouldn’t expect something like this to happen in this area. It’s a shame for the pub too. It was just the wrong place at the wrong time.”
The victim was set upon moments after leaving Ye Olde Inn around midnight. He was rushed to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh by ambulance with serious injuries. The suspects are believed to have left the area in a red saloon-type vehicle.
Detective Inspector Kevin Tait said: “We are appealing for anyone who witnessed or has information on the incident to get in touch.
“I’d particularly ask anyone who was within the pub on Main Street yesterday evening (20 April) to come forward to help our enquiries.
“Equally anyone who may have seen a red saloon car in the Davidson's Mains, or surrounding areas, or has information on this vehicle and its occupants, should contact officers as soon as possible. We are assessing available CCTV footage and anyone who may have dashcam of the incident, or vehicle, should provide this at your earliest opportunity.”
