Horrific moment group of young men mutilate dead bird

A shocking CCTV clip showing a gang of youths mutilating a dead bird has emerged.

The footage, which was captured on Middlewich Street, Crewe at around 6pm on Monday, April 4, shows between 15-25 people, mainly young men. They gather around what appears to be a dead pigeon, believed to have been put there by one of the group.

Some of the boys then start to throw things at the bird, hurling bricks and rocks at the creature before jumping and stamping on the body, then throwing a cone and a small bike at the creature.

According to Cheshire Live, another clip shared online showed one of the members of the group pick up part of the bird, before throwing it onto the back of a nearby car. A person is spotted coming out of a nearby property on the clip, causing the gang to run away.

It is not known whether the bird was dead before or after being found by the group. The footage of the incident has been reported to police. A spokesperson for Cheshire Constabulary confirmed that a video on social media "believed to show a bird being harmed" was reported at midday on Tuesday (April 5). They added: "A local officer is contacting the caller for further information and enquiries will be ongoing."

The footage emerged just hours after a cat was reportedly killed when it was attacked by an 'unknown group' in the nearby Crossway area of the town in the early hours of Monday (April 4). Police confirmed that they are investigating this incident.

A spokesperson for Cheshire Constabulary said: "At 8.16am on Monday April 4 police were called to reports that a cat had died after being attacked in Crewe. The caller reported that sometime last night an unknown group attacked the cat in the Crossway area of Crewe."

Anyone with any information on the cat attack should contact Cheshire Police via their website or call 101, quoting IML 1237734. Alternatively, details can be left anonymously with Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
