Horrific images laying bare the horror injuries sustained by a young boy savaged by a shark on holiday in the Bahamas have been shared by his family.
Finley Downer, eight, was attacked by at least three nurse sharks while on the break exploring five islands.
The schoolboy suffered gruesome injuries as the predators bit at his legs, leaving him with flesh hanging from the bone.
Nurse sharks are usually harmless towards humans but the family were unaware scraps of food had been thrown into the water to attract them before Finley got in.
The sharks swarmed around him, leaving him to fear he would die.
His dad, 44-year-old Michael, told the Sun: “My son could have been killed. It was like a scene out of Jaws.”
“Suddenly, I heard a terrifying scream and saw dozens circling Finley. There was so much blood. Bits of his leg was hanging off.
“He kept saying, ‘Dad, I don’t want to die. Dad, I don’t want to go to heaven.'”
Finley was dragged out of the water by his sister and he was rushed to the nearest clinic on a golf buggy.
Michael later forked out £2,000 for a flight to get to Nassau where Finley underwent a three-hour operation.
The family are now back home in Kettering, Northants.
Finley is still using a wheelchair.
Michael claims the tour guides said the sharks were safe, but Exuma Escapes, the operator, told The Sun the family went into the water without a guide into a lagoon not used on its tour.
It comes as swimmers in Florida panicked when two sharks were spotted lurking close to the shore.
Beachgoers relaxing on Neptune Beach in Jacksonville were surprised to see a pair of grey fins poking out of the water's surface, which was only knee-deep high.
The close call, which was caught on camera on Saturday, July 30, resulted in someone screaming: "Get out the water !" as people can be seen suddenly scrambling to leave the ocean as quickly as possible.
No one was injured in the incident, but it left swimmers wary to re-enter the waters any time soon.
Scary footage filmed by a resident showed onlookers watching the two sharks splashing their bodies around in the shallow surf from the safety of the beach.
This latest sighting followed an increase in the number of sharks spotted along the east coast of the US, MailOnline reports . A beach in Maine was reportedly temporarily closed last week after a great white shark was seen in the area.
