CCTV captures moment murderer stabs dad in the neck and lets him die

This is the blood-chilling moment murderer Steven White fatally stabbed his victim Jordan Cody in the neck inside a tent. Jordan attempted to run for his life but collapsed seconds later and died in a pool of blood.

White, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to murder during his trial at Cardiff Crown Court and was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum of 26 years. CCTV footage was played to the jury in the trial of the moment the defendant caused the fatal injury to Mr Cody outside of the Huggard Centre in Cardiff on November 23, last year.

The two men were known to each other but White, 44, who had been released from prison four days previously, became upset after £100 worth of crack cocaine the pair had bought had gone missing. He later told people could not cope and said "I need to go back to jail".

After stabbing Mr Cody, 31, in the neck, White followed him out of the tent and stood over him after he fell to the floor. He tapped his body in search of a crack pipe and said: "You're not a bad man now are you?"

The footage, released by South Wales Police, showed White wearing an orange hat and a black coat and was walking to a small tent, occupied by Mr Cody, which was used by people to take drugs. After White entered the tent, there was a scuffle between the two men and the killer's orange hat can be clearly seen through the tent fabric.

Moments later, Mr Cody was seen running out of the tent but by this time he had already received the fatal neck injury. He ran yards before collapsing to the floor seconds later. White could then be seen leaving the tent with a knife in his hand, before walking over to where Mr Cody had collapsed and standing over him. Witnesses could be seen remonstrating with the defendant who kept the knife in his possession.

White was later seen grabbing hold of Mr Cody's bike and attempting to ride off but was pushed to the floor by another man. Having thrown the murder weapon, White got back on the bike and rode off as others tried to help Mr Cody, who died at the scene as a result of his injuries.

The defendant was next spotted on CCTV at Argos in Cardiff Bay, having travelled to an uncle's house who gave a lift to the shop. He bought himself a radio, in preparation for his return to prison, and visited the Asda supermarket nearby where he purchased a novel by Lee Child named "Better Off Dead".

He was next caught on a body-worn police camera when he flagged down a police Transit van in Habershon Street, Splott, telling them he was the person he was looking for and he had "stabbed someone in the neck". During his arrest, he told officers "I did it, he was bullying me all the f****** time". He added: "I have bought a radio and a book and I'm ready to go to jail". Upon being arrested on suspicion of murder, White said: "“It’s not suspicion, I f****** did it”.

Following the sentencing hearing, detective chief inspector Matt Davies, of South Wales Police, said: "Jordan Cody-Foster was a much loved son, nephew, cousin, brother and father and our thoughts are with his friends and family. I hope the outcome at Cardiff Crown Court today provides some comfort to all who knew and loved Jordan.

"His death shocked the community, particularly those working and residing at the Huggard Centre. I would like to thank them not only for their brave actions on the day and the efforts they made to save Jordan’s life, but also for their support during our investigation. This tragic case yet again highlights the devastating and far-reaching consequences of knife crime.

"South Wales Police is committed to tackling knife crime by preventing people carrying these weapons and robustly dealing with those we find involved in such criminality. If you have suspicions that someone may be carrying a knife, please contact police. Speaking out could, quite simply, save a life.”
