Hornchurch stabbing: Appeal for witnesses after teen knifed outside college

Detectives are appealing for witnesses after a teenager was stabbed outside New City College in Hornchurch, east London.

The teen, 18, was rushed to hospital after being knifed on Ardleigh Green Road on Tuesday at about 10.40am.

A bleed bag, recently donated to the college by Ricky Hayden Memorial charity, was reportedly used by a teacher on the teenager.

His condition is no longer believed to be life-threatening.

Another teenager, aged 18, has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. He has since been released on bail.

The college was shortly placed into lockdown after the incident.

A New City College spokesperson said on Tuesday: “We are devastated that one of our students was stabbed today in Ardleigh Green Road. The student was taken to hospital by ambulance.

“We immediately shut the campus for the safety of our students and lessons for the afternoon were cancelled. At this point our full focus is on the safety of our students and in particular for the victim and their family. We are doing everything we can to support them.

“We urge the community to come forward with any information to help the police with their enquiries and to find those responsible.”

MP for Romford, Andrew Rosindell, said he was shocked by the “vicious knife attack”.

“My thoughts are with the victim and I’m sure I speak for the whole of Havering in praying for his swift recovery,” he tweeted.

“We cannot continue to allow stabbings and violent crime on our streets!”

Metropolitan Police detectives are urging witnesses or anyone with information to contact them.

Anyone with information at this early stage is asked to call police on 101 or tweet @MetCC and quote CAD 2318/21Feb.
