Guerrilla Games, the studio responsible for Horizon Forbidden West, is seemingly gearing up for a sequel.
On Monday, Guerrilla Games announced that studio director and executive producer Angie Smets is moving on to a new role – specifically as head of development strategy at PlayStation Studios (Thanks, Eurogamer).
“These past two decades at Guerrilla have been an absolute dream,” Smets said. “I feel privileged to have worked alongside some of the smartest and coolest people in the industry. I’m so grateful for everything I’ve learned alongside all the other Guerrillas.”
Later in the same post, Guerrilla Games more-or-less confirms that a follow-up to Horizon Forbidden West is in development.
“We have full confidence in our new leadership as they steer Guerrilla towards a bright future, expanding the world of Horizon with Aloy’s next adventure and our exciting online project,” Guerrilla Games said.
The bit about “Aloy’s next adventure” is worth highlighting since, you know – she’s the protagonist of this series. So her next appearance will likely be in another mainline installment.
Given the vague nature of this statement, it’s unlike that Guerrilla Games is referring to either Horizon: Call of the Mountain or Horizon Forbidden West‘s Burning Shores DLC. However, it does mention “online projects,” which is presumably the multiplayer Horizon spin-off that was confirmed late last year. There have also been rumors of an MMORPG set within the Horizon universe.
