Hope for 'manufacturing boost' as Prestwick Airport proposals lodged with council planners

A major development proposal at Prestwick Airport has been submitted to South Ayrshire Council planners.

The bid, undertaken ahead of a formal planning application, outlines the development of a facility for ‘manufacturing, testing and operations of electronic and telecommunication equipment’ at Prestwick International Aerospace Park.

The council confirmed the proposal is not related to the Ayrshire Growth Deal and development of Prestwick Spaceport, but said it could ‘boost manufacturing in the area’.

It includes car parking, a telecommunications area, service yard, roads, landscaping and other services associated with the development.

Local folk will be able to find out more about the proposal at a public consultation event.

This will take place between 12noon and 7pm on June 1 at Monkton Primary School, Station Road, Monkton.

In a notice submitted as part of the planning applications, the developers say the event will give members of the public an ‘opportunity to ask questions of the design team and provide feedback to them’.

The notice warns that there may be a cap applied on those permitted to enter the venue at any one time.

It also indicates that, should the situation demand it, the consultation event could be held online rather than in person.

Comments related to the application would require to be submitted by Tuesday, June 14.

This consultation will not be the only opportunity for the public to make representations about the plan.

Should a formal application be submitted, it would entail a further opportunity to provide feedback.
