The conventional wisdom that you can’t have too many two way wings on your roster is certainly being born out by the results of a recent analysis of HoopsHype’s Alberto De Roa as he used his catchall metric “Global Rating” to assess where in the order of the league the Boston Celtics‘ two star small forwards rate.
Global Metric, as related by De Roa, “combines players’ and teams’ statistics to rank players according to their productivity on the court.” And his deep dive in to the top 20 small forwards in the league places Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown both in the top three in the NBA so far this season.

No. 3 - Jaylen Brown
“Brown is one the best secondary stars in the league and still has room to potentially become a great No. 1 option,” suggests De Roa.
“He’s on track not only to command maximum contract offers league-wide but could also qualify for a supermax extension should he earn All-NBA honors this coming season.”
No. 1 - Jayson Tatum
“Tatum is having his best start to a regular season averaging 30.5 points per game on 62.5% true shooting,” relates the H/H analyst.
“The Celtics are off to a strong start to the season thanks to his play on the court and his leadership through an unexpected coaching change.”
