Hooded youngster chased away after being spotted by homeowner during attempted Meath break-in

A hooded youngster was chased away after being spotted by a homeowner during an attempted Meath break-in.

The young man attempted to break-in to the home through the back door on Friday in the Moat area of Oldcastle at around 7:30pm, after the homeowner heard a noise and went to investigate.

The youngster, described as 5’10” and wearing a black hooded top, then sprinted from the scene.

Thankfully, the burglar did not gain entry to the home.

Gardai have asked anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area to get in contact with them.

A garda spokesperson said on the Meath Crime Prevention page: "Kells Gardaí are investigating an attempted burglary which occurred in the Moat area of Oldcastle on Friday last, January 14th.

"At approximately 7.30pm, the home owner went to investigate a noise which was heard coming from the back of the house.

"A young male approx. 5’10”, wearing a black hooded top was then seen running from the back of the house. No entry was gained by the intruder.

"Anyone who may have been in the area at the time and noticed any suspicious activity or can help in any way are asked to please contact Kells Garda Station on 046 9280820 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111. "
