Hooded Glasgow figure filmed tossing exploding firework through letterbox of family home

A new mum has said she thought a bomb had gone off after a yob put a lit firework through her letterbox while her 11-week-old baby slept.

Lauren Mcginlay was upstairs with baby TJ when she heard the explosive go off at her family home in Ashgill Road in Milton at 7.20pm on Tuesday night.

The 18-year-old, who lives with her boyfriend, mum, two sisters aged 13 and seven and her autistic six-year-old brother, said the kids were terrified by the loud noise, the Daily Record reports.

The teenager's mum raced to the front door and found an empty firework, which had burned a hole through their doormat.

The horrified family have now slammed the mindless thugs responsible saying they could have been seriously hurt.

Lauren said: "Everyone got a fright. The kids were terrified about what the noise was. It sounded like a bomb had gone off.

"We just heard a big bang and my mum ran to the door and saw the firework and the front doormat burned.

"We have four kids in this house including my 11-week-old baby TJ. Thankfully he was sleeping upstairs when it happened, but he got woken up by the firework and started crying when it went off.

"My brother is autistic as well so thank god he didn’t react badly.

"We never saw anyone. They must have been hiding behind cars across the road."

Lauren's neighbours heard the explosion and caught the moment the hooded thug set the firework alight.

Lauren added: "When we saw our neighbour's CCTV, me and my boyfriend walked around the estate because we could still hear fireworks going off. We couldn't find anyone."

In the CCTV clip the hooded lout was captured slowly walking down the street canvassing the area before stopping outside Lauren's home.

He stands outside the house for around 40 seconds before opening the gate and approaching the front door. At this moment the CCTV footage pans to another angle showing a second person dressed in dark clothing hiding behind a Royal Mail van.

The person hidden behind the vehicle then begins to film the incident as the flash appears - and after a few seconds the lout with the firework can be seen sprinting away from the property. Smoke then appears at the door before a huge flash as the firework explodes.

The incident was not reported to police but the family hope to identify the thugs responsible through a social media appeal. Lauren is asking for anyone with information to get in touch.

She added: "Someone must know something as you can see in the CCTV clip the other boy was filming it.

"We just want whoever did it to be caught. They shouldn’t be getting away with it - it is so dangerous.

"It’s just sick - they should know the consequences of doing this."

Lauren added: "We don't want to let them get away with this. We were thinking about contacting the police but you can’t see their faces on CCTV so we thought it probably would be pointless as there's not much they could do.

Police Scotland confirmed the incident was not reported to them.
