'Honk if you hate Elon': M8 drivers give verdict on Elon Musk amid Tesla protests

DRIVERS on the M8 gave their verdict on Elon Musk as protests were held in a global day of action.

A group of activists gathered in Glasgow as part of the "Tesla Takedown" campaign, which aims to stop Musk funding "people like Tommy Robinson, Donald Trump and Europe’s far-right" by tanking Tesla stock.

Demonstrators held signs which stated "honk if you hate Elon" and headed to the nearby M8 road to encourage drivers to take part.

Footage shows several honking as they passed the protesters.

Protests also took place in Edinburgh, Bristol, Leeds, London, Manchester, Nottingham and Winchester.

The electric car giant has already seen shares plunge since the start of the year as the firm comes under pressure from Chinese rivals amid calls for a boycott over Musk’s close ties with US president Donald Trump and far-right causes.

Musk continues to run Tesla — as well as the social media platform Twitter/X and the rocket manufacturer SpaceX — while also serving as Trump’s adviser.

The Edinburgh dealership is found on Cliftonhall Road in Newbridge, while Glasgow protests took place on Kennedy Street in Townhead.

A statement on the campaigns website states: "Elon Musk is using his obscene wealth and social media heft to support far right movements. He is funding climate-change deniers and backing policies that drive emissions higher, supporting Trump in his campaign to 'Drill, Baby Drill'.

"Musk’s access to his money depends largely on the share price of Tesla, and Tesla’s share price depends, fundamentally, on people who care about the climate continuing to buy his cars and use his chargers."
