A man has been arrested following the death of a 24-year-old woman in Perth's CBD early this morning.
Police said the woman was found unresponsive in a car park on Wellington Street just before 3am after she was allegedly assaulted about 500 metres away in Yagan Square.
Paramedics provided first aid to the woman but were unable to revive her.
A 27-year-old man was arrested in the CBD a short time later and is currently helping police with their investigation.
Victim and alleged attacker knew each other
Detective Senior Sergeant Keith Neubronner said the man and victim were both from regional WA and had a "domestic relationship."
Sergeant Neubronner said the woman had been assaulted but there were no obvious injuries.
"We have still got a lot of other procedures that we need to go through before we can confirm exactly what injuries she has," he said.
"What I can say that our information and our intelligence leads us to believe that the assault started within Yagan Square and then went all the way down to Wellington Street."
Police reviewing CCTV
He said parts of the assault had been captured on CCTV footage.
"As you will know, [to] travel from here to Wellington Street is a fair distance [so] there's still a lot more CCTV for us to canvass [and] a lot more stuff for us to look at before we can make a definitive call on exactly where we're at," Detective Senior Sergeant Neubronner said.
He said there was a large group socialising in Yagan Square before the assault occurred, but no one had witnessed it.
Homicide detectives had cordoned off parts of the area and a number of roads have been closed while authorities carry out their investigation.
Anyone with information or who has mobile phone or dash cam footage of the area between 2:30am and 3:15am, is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
