Homicide squad investigates woman's death in Leonora following suspected family violence incident

The woman was taken to Leonora Hospital where she died.   (ABC Goldfields: Jarrod Lucas)

A woman in her 30s who died in a suspected family violence incident in Western Australia's northern Goldfields overnight has been identified as a resident of the remote Ngaanyatjarra Lands.

Homicide squad detectives are investigating her death in the small town of Leonora, about 235 kilometres north-east of Kalgoorlie-Boulder.

The ABC has confirmed her family in the remote Aboriginal community of Warakurna, about 1,100 kilometres north-east of Kalgoorlie-Boulder, has been notified of her death by WA Police.

The ABC has chosen not to name the woman for cultural reasons.

A sorry camp is set to be established on the outskirts of Warakurna later today for community members to mourn.

Police say the investigation is focusing on two related incidents in Leonora.

About 8:55pm on Thursday, police were called to reports of a disturbance at a home on Cohen Street.

Police say upon arrival they located the woman with critical injuries.

She was taken to Leonora Hospital where she died.

Police were subsequently called to another disturbance at a home on Gwalia Street, where they say they located several injured people.

A man and a woman, who are both aged in their 40s and from the remote community of Warburton, 230km south-west of Warakurna, are in Kalgoorlie-Boulder assisting police with their investigations.

The Royal Flying Doctor Service confirmed it transported a 41-year-old woman from Leonora to Kalgoorlie Health Campus, arriving at 4:50am today.

Police have confirmed the parties were known to each other.
