Peacock, the streaming service, has announced that the critically acclaimed drama 'Homicide: Life on the Street' will be available for streaming starting August 19. The show, which originally aired on NBC, consists of seven seasons and 122 episodes, along with the series finale movie 'Homicide: The Movie' from 2000. All episodes have been remastered for HD and 4K viewing.
'Homicide: Life on the Street' was based on David Simon's book 'Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets' and was created by Paul Attanasio. The show followed detectives in Baltimore's homicide unit and was praised for its realistic depiction of detective work, including cases that remained unsolved.
The series boasted a talented cast, including Andre Braugher, who won an Emmy in 1998 for his role as Detective Frank Pembleton. Other notable cast members included Ned Beatty, Richard Belzer, Yaphet Kotto, Melissa Leo, Giancarlo Esposito, and many more.
Throughout its run, 'Homicide: Life on the Street' had crossovers with NBC's 'Law & Order' franchise, and Richard Belzer's character, Detective John Munch, continued on 'Law & Order: SVU' after the conclusion of 'Homicide.'
David Simon, who worked on the series as a writer and producer, hinted at the streaming announcement in June, mentioning that NBC had secured the necessary music rights for the show to be available on a streaming platform.
'Homicide: Life on the Street' was produced by Universal Television, with NBCUniversal Global TV Distribution handling U.S. distribution and Fremantle managing international distribution.
