Homes Under the Hammer star Martin Roberts says he'll 'never be the same person again' after brush with death

Martin Roberts from Homes Under the Hammer has updated fans on his health after a scare last month. The 58-year-old appeared on ITV This Morning on Wednesday after he was rushed to hospital with just "hours to live" in April.

Martin told Rochelle Humes and Phillip Schofield in quotes reported by Birmingham Live : "I think a lot of people avoid going to A&E, they are reluctant and put off at the moment. They think 'oh, you know, I'll take the pressure off the NHS or whatever'.

"But actually, the NHS would tell you 'get there'. Because in my case, minutes made the difference. It really was only minutes."

Martin added: "By the time they got to me, my kidneys were at 30 per cent, my liver was 30 per cent.

"Basically, a sack around my heart was filling with fluid and it was squeezing the heart it sits around. It means my heart wasn't able to expand, and then it wasn't able to pump."

He admitted: "At any point I could have had a heart attack. You think it's a breathing problem. It's not. That was just a symptom of the heart not working. All my other organs started failing."

In a recent interview, Martin said: "I feel so very lucky to be here. I could have died but I’m here.

He added: "I’ll never be the same person again." ITV This Morning continues to air each and every weekday from 10am on ITV1.
