Homes Under The Hammer's Martin Roberts transforms Welsh farmhouse into stunning home

Homes Under The Hammer's Martin Roberts has unveiled the very impressive renovations to a Welsh farmhouse he snapped up last year.

The TV star, 58, has had a very busy year as he appeared on BBC2's University Challenge as well as stripping in ITV's Strictly The Real Full Monty to raise awareness of the importance of going to see a doctor for early diagnosis of medical issues.

However, it seems he's gone back to his home renovation roots and has put this into action with his own house.

Martin purchased a period property Rhondda, Wales, which is also one of the oldest properties in the area, and the results are incredible.

The home consists of four bedrooms and is a former farmhouse, set within a private garden that surrounds it and behind a gated entrance.

Martin has decided to keep a lot of the character within the house by featuring original fireplaces as well as stone walls and flagstone floors.

The house was given a Grade II listing from Cadw in 1972, amended 1996, for being 'an important example of a large, mid 17th century farmhouse because of its rare surviving, good quality interior timber details'.

The entrance consists of a porch featuring the original solid wood front door before flowing into the kitchen diner as well as two more large reception rooms.

Martin decided to expose even more of the beams, adding to the older character of the house as well as revealing some sections of the stone walls and white washing some of the others.

He chose to keep the first reception room looking similar to when it started by surrounding the fireplace with sofas.

The second living room has a huge fireplace with a log burner and a chunky wood mantlepiece over the top of it.

The space includes a piano and dining table, in order to place it as sociable as possible.

Both of the front rooms have wooden floors as well as white washed stone walls.

Martin has included some original features in the kitchen such as the island and the fireplace.

The floors and kitchen units have been swapped out for new but the house renovation genius has upcycled the central island as well as the ceiling beams.

Going onto the first floor, the four bedrooms have had a large transformation with three of the ceilings being taken down to expose the roof structure.

Martin has decorated the bedrooms with neutral furniture choices in appeal to keep the focus on the impressive original features.

However, it seems Martin isn't alone in the house as he also has some spooky guests.

The farmhouse is due to appear on an episode of Celebrity Help! My House is Haunted, in February on Discovery+ where Martin explores what ghosts are living in his house.

The programme finds that there are four spirits inside the home, a woman, two children and a man.

Martin's house is available to rent on airbnb here.
