Ayrshire detectives have launched an investigation after a property was torched late last night.
Homes on Ayr's James Street were evacuated after the emergency services were alerted to the blaze at around 11.20pm.
Police have confirmed today that nobody was injured in the fire and that residents were allowed to return to their homes after firefighters had extinguished the flames and the area was made safe.
Detective sergeant Sarah Holland, of Kilmarnock CID, said: "Thankfully nobody has been injured as a result of this reckless act.
"Our enquiries have established this fire was started deliberately and are asking anyone with any information to come forward and speak to officers.
"We are also keen to hear from anyone with potential private CCTV, dashcam or video doorbell footage.
"We believe this was an isolated incident and are following a positive line of enquiry."
Anyone with information should contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident 4170 of Saturday, July 2, or call the charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
