Homeowners in one region of Merseyside may be eligible for a new council tax energy rebate payment.
Wirral Council are now inviting applications for their discretionary energy rebate payment scheme, available to people who weren't eligible for the original energy rebate payment scheme. Payments will be credited to council tax accounts like the original scheme.
Most eligible groups will recieve the payment automatically. However, the council has set forward instructions for some people, who do not fall within those groups, to apply.

Applicants must be an energy bill payer and must be occupying a property in Wirral as a sole or main residence. They must also have either moved into the council tax bands of A - D after Friday, April 1, or not have been eligible for the core scheme whilst also not falling into the groups eligible for the original scheme as listed on the council website.
Some groups are uneligible for the scheme. These are:
- Those who recieved a payment from the council tax rebate scheme already
- Those which are a liable for council tax, that are a local authority
- Students living in halls of residence
