There were 3,028 children accessing emergency accommodation in the last week of May, according to the latest figures from the Department of Housing. Sinn Fein TD Eoin O Broin expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and called for improved supports to reduce the risk of homeless deaths.

A garda spokesman said: "Gardai at Store Street were alerted to the death of a man in his 50s at a hostel on Granby Row, Dublin 1, on Tuesday July 26, 2022. His body was removed to Dublin City Morgue."

He added: "The Coroner has been notified and the outcome of a post-mortem will determine the course of further enquires in the matter. Foul play is not suspected."

Dublin Mid-West TD O Broin said: "I would like to express my deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased. While it is too early to comment on the cause of death it is important that the Dublin Regional Homeless Executive and the HSE conduct an adult safeguarding review to ensure that the causes of death are understood and supports for those experiencing homelessness, mental health and addiction are improved to reduce the risk of such deaths in the future."

Dublin Live previously reported a homeless man was found dead in a tent across the road from the Department of Health.
