Homecoming queen candidate collapsed and died at halftime of an Ohio high school football game

Last week, high school senior Breanne McKean collapsed and died during pregame festivities at a football game in Ohio. At the time of her collapse, McKean was being honored as part of the homecoming court.

McKean was a three-sport athlete (volleyball, basketball and softball) at Mapleton High School (Mapleton, Ohio). She was one of three Senior Queen candidates.

She was rushed to Ashland Hospital where she passed due to what has been termed a medical emergency.

A memorial service will be held in her remembrance on Saturday, October 7. The service will be conducted by Pastor Richard Grilley of local Trinity Baptist Church.

A memorial scholarship has been established to remember her life.

The homecoming dance, which had been scheduled for Saturday, was canceled. The Mapleton School District arranged for grief counselors to be available to students this week.

Mapleton’s athletic director is Tim McKean, the father of the young woman who was simply known by ‘Bre’ to many of her friends.
