Sunseekers rejoice! The home stretch of winter has arrived and Newcastle is in for warm days with tops of 26 and 27 degrees in the next week.

The temperature is predicted to reach 26C on Wednesday and again on Sunday before climbing to 27C on Monday.

Daytime temperatures for the next seven days are all expected to reach 22C or more and there is a slight chance of rain from Friday to Monday.

Some keen young swimmers took advantage of Tuesday's warmer weather by frolicking in the shallows at Bar Beach.

While the waves may still be a bit cold for some, the sea water temperature has warmed to 17C after hitting 15C earlier in August.

The outlook for spring is also looking warm. The Bureau of Meteorology is predicting a 63 per cent chance of above median temperatures in Newcastle across the season and a 32 per cent chance of "unusually warm" spring weather.
