The long-time family home of one of the founders of Belmont Christian College has hit the market for the first time in almost 40 years.
The five-bedroom, two-bathroom house at 11 Maranatha Close in Belmont North is listed for sale with Lance Jensen at Lance Jensen and Associates Real Estate.
Mr Jensen said a price guide was yet to be determined ahead of the first open house inspection on October 12 from 11.30am to 12pm.
Set on 1345 square metres in a cul-de-sac, the single-level brick house has a covered entertaining area and multiple living spaces including a formal living room and a large rumpus room.
The kitchen has a breakfast bar and the master bedroom includes a bay window, a walk-in robe and an ensuite.
Other features include ducted air conditioning, high ceilings, built-in robes and a 9kw solar system.
A shared driveway to the side provides access to a large garage at the rear of the property.
Mr Jensen described it as a substantial home that was recently updated.
"It is a big home," Mr Jensen said.
"They have done a great job bringing it up to scratch with the interiors by installing new flooring and fresh paint throughout the property.
"It went live today and I have already received a lot of enquiries, so it should generate a fair amount of interest."
It has been held by the Bevan family since 1987.
The Bevans were one of six families who purchased homes in the area after acquiring 64 acres of land owned by BHP with the vision to create Belmont Christian College.
The college is located on a large landholding backing onto homes opposite the property.
"There is a lot of history behind it all," Mr Jensen said.
According to Mr Jensen, six families with a passion for Christian education came together to buy the land and six houses in 1987.
The houses for each family were decided by pulling a number out of a hat.
All but two of the homes have since been sold off, including 9 Maranatha Close and 11 Maranatha Close which was owned by Clara and Alec Bevan.
The collective of families was one of five tenders for the land and while their bid was the lowest, BHP liked the ethos behind the college and awarded them the land to establish Belmont Christian College.
"They developed the site to create Belmont Christian College and also built Tranquil Waters estate and John Darling estate across the 64 acres.
"It was quite entrepreneurial for back in the day."
The college has expanded over the past 42 years to offer education from kindergarten to year 12.
It originally had 12 students and now has around 900.
