POLICE are combing the scene of a suspicious fire which ripped though a house at Windale overnight and caused extensive damage.
Emergency services were called to Sturt Street just after 2.30am on Thursday, October 10, after reports a blaze had broken out inside a home.
Firefighters rushed to the scene and found a medium-sized house with smoke coming out of it.
They went inside to fight the fire and managed to have the flames extinguished by about 6am.
Multiple Fire and Rescue NSW crews responded to the call for help and were told by neighbours at the scene that the residents of the home were not there at the time.
A NSW Police spokesperson confirmed the home was unoccupied and no injuries were reported.
A Fire and Rescue NSW spokesperson confirmed the Sturt Street house had suffered extensive damage from the flames.
The scene was handed over to police on Thursday morning.
Police are treating the fire as suspicious but were working to determine the cause.
