An Adelaide man who allegedly posed as a police officer when he raped two women in hotel quarantine has been granted home detention bail after almost three years in custody.
Shivan Suresh Agravat, 34, is charged with four counts of rape, and three counts of deception, over the alleged attacks at an Adelaide city hotel in March 2020.
He has pleaded not guilty and will face trial in October.
It is alleged Mr Agravat impersonated police while armed with a fake gun when he raped two women during their 14 days of hotel quarantine.
On Thursday he was granted home detention bail to live at a home in Salisbury with strict conditions.
He has been ordered to surrender his passport, be electronically monitored and not approach five people, including his alleged victims.
District Court Judge Paul Muscat said his alleged offending was "extremely serious", but he had been in custody since March 2020.
He said his case was "complex" and his trial has had to be delayed on a few occasions.
A new trial is now scheduled for October.
"It'll be over three-and-a-half years by then and that is unacceptable," he said.
