Home care services across South Lanarkshire are improving

Progress is being made across South Lanarkshire Council’s home care services after a national inspection detected issues.

Successful updates on the care home care services were discussed at the Risk and Audit Scrutiny Committee on Wednesday, where councillors welcomed the progress.

A check carried out by the Care Inspectorate at the end of 2019 found concerns in the delivery of care at home services in Hamilton and Cambuslang services.

Since then, the council has launched a series of individual action plans to combat issues in each area.

An improvement plan has been developed and progress updates have been overseen by the authority’s Care at Home Transformation Board.

A temporary prohibition (also referred to as a moratorium) for new referrals was put in place in the Hamilton and Rutherglen services.

The concerns have also been addressed through management changes and a redesign of services.

The temporary prohibition of new referrals in Rutherglen completed on August 31 last year, and the Hamilton area moratorium ended on November 16.

Regular updates are being provided to the Care Inspectorate and a follow up inspection of the services is planned to take place.

The Care Inspectorate supports improvement and ensures the quality of care across Scotland meets high standards and encourages services to make positive changes when needed.
